Clark County Magnet High School - Advanced Technologies Academy (A-Tech)

If you have an academically/technologically gifted child approaching high school age, here's another great reason to consider the purchase of Las Vegas real estate. Allow us to introduce you to the Advanced Technologies Academy, otherwise known as A-Tech. This is a comprehensive magnet high school, established in 1994, that offers advanced study in the following areas; Business and Finance, Law Related Education, Computer Graphic Design with a Graphics Emphasis, Computer Graphic Design with a CADD Emphasis, Computer Science, Pre-Engineering Technology, Information Technology and Systems Support Technology. At graduation, students receive their high school diploma as well as Program Certification in their major area of study.

At A-Tech, students are challenged by a demanding schedule of eight AP (Advanced Placement) courses, with two day block scheduling. A-Tech is home to 1,026 students who must maintain a minimum 2.0 (C) average to continue their studies at this prestigious Las Vegas high school. A-Tech is also proud to offer a computer for every, single student. The use of computer technology in all class work reinforces logic-based thinking habits and encourages the development of advanced problem solving and decision making skills.

It's typical to apply for admission in the eight or sometimes the ninth grade. Academic achievement, test scores and teacher recommendations play a significant role in gaining acceptance. Approximately 1,000 student applications are received each year to compete for just 200 openings. As you might expect, the academic environment is very challenging, requiring students to maintain focus and develop good study and time management skills. Students attend all regular core classes such as English, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, Health/PE, Humanities, and Foreign Language in addition to courses in the student's selected major area of study.

In 2003, A-Tech was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School, a prestigious award and one of only 219 to be received nationwide that year. A-Tech has also has been recognized by the State of Nevada as an "Exemplary High School" for the 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006 school years. First Lady Laura Bush made a well-publicized visit in February of 2004 and cited A-Tech as a model for top-flight 21st Century schools.
